Cambodia is such a vibrant, social and hospitable country but due to lock down every thing has changed.  Lock down due to corona virus has made an impact of culture of Cambodia.  There is an empty river side in Phnom Penh and social life is almost zero in the Capital.  Angkor Wat which is considered as a tourists’ heaven is so life less.

Social Distancing on Khmer New Year:

Khmer new year is celebrated with social distancing.  Khmer new year is one of most important holidays in Cambodia where people socialize and see their loved ones and relatives.  This year the holidays were of no use as most of the people were in isolation and following social distancing.  People eagerly waiting for these holidays but this year it was so colorless.  Although Government has announced holidays from 14-16 April.  But most of the kids were at home and elders also working from home in most of cases.  People avoid travelling to their villages and see their relatives due to Covid-19.

Fate of Upcoming Holidays

May is considered to be a month filled with public holidays but this year it is different.  Because of Corona Virus and public scare of disease, these holidays are of no use.  Three days of Kings' birthday holidays are the one which people eagerly awaits.  But now as most of public gathering are prohibited, its fate is clear.

Business and Economy:

Business and economy are impacted in Cambodia during Corona Virus lock down.  Economy is mostly dependent on tourism and textile sectors.  Both of these are severely impacted due to corona virus. All the tourist spots and tourist heavens are closed.  Whereas all the associated businesses like airlines, hospitality, entertainment, etc. are closed.  In the similar manner, Textile sector is struggling due to cancellation of orders and unavailability of labour and raw materials.

When this will end?

This is the question which is being asked by the whole world. We have seen prediction and analysis which provide all kind of positive and negative views. According to some prediction, by June 2020 most of the lock down will be over due to flattening of the curve.  But still there are some analyst which believe that second wave will be coming in later this year.  So, they warn people to consider precautionary measures to stay safe.
